What is Gord Ventures?

Gord Ventures backs companies that do not belong to an existing thesis in the group. Where a company fits a vertical, it goes to that vertical’s Ventures arm; where it fits none, it is underwritten here rather than declined for want of a category, and a vertical is formed around it if enough of them accumulate.

When does a vertical earn its own Ventures arm?

A vertical earns its own Ventures arm when it has deal flow of its own — enough companies arriving in a category that a dedicated arm sees more than the parent would. It earns a Capital arm later and separately, when it has a balance sheet to allocate. Neither is granted at formation, and the gate is published so it can be checked.

What terms does Gord Ventures offer?

Gord Ventures underwrites on the group’s standard formation terms rather than a bespoke instrument per deal, because a standard term sheet is the only version a founder can compare honestly against another offer. Where a position is taken, its instrument, percentage and date are recorded in the estate’s ownership register.
